CUPP gives kudos to Tinubu on road infrastructure, urges consistency

By Our Reporter

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as impressive achievements in road infrastructure across the country.

The opposition coalition said its independent assessment of ongoing projects showed remarkable progress under the current administration, particularly in the Ministry of Works, led by Senator David Umahi.

CUPP made the commendation in a statement signed by its National Spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, on Saturday in Abuja, following an inspection of the Abuja–Lokoja–Benin Road and other major projects.

According to the group, the evaluation formed part of a broader review of government performance across sectors as the Tinubu administration marks its second year in office.

Members of the CUPP steering committee, including Barrister Emeka Benjamin Igwe, Mrs. Grace Ishaku, Dr. Abayọmi Runsewe, Ambassador Abbah Lewis, and Adebayo, participated in the independent tour aimed at separating facts from political claims.

The CUPP Spokesperson stated, “As 2025 draws to a close, coalition members have been analysing work done in various sectors of the Nigerian economy under the current administration... We might have set out initially to puncture claims of achievements by the All Progressives Congress government, especially in infrastructure development, but the impression we got in this first phase of our nationwide inspection was very positive.”

The group particularly commended the Works Minister, Senator David Umahi, for his “hands-on leadership,” describing him as one of the hardest-working ministers in the cabinet. It lauded his frequent project inspections, field engagement, and empathy towards communities affected by road-related tragedies.

The opposition spokesperson added, "From our assessment of various sectors, so far, Umahi is inarguably the hardest working minister in the current administration, many factors considered... The Minister has demonstrated that a Works Minister's job is on the field and not in air-conditioned offices."

The coalition observed that contractors were fully mobilised on key routes, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, Benin–Shagamu–Ore Road, Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, and the Abuja–Lokoja–Benin Road, where concrete technology is being adopted for durability.

It urged the Federal Government to maintain the current momentum and ensure consistency in project funding and supervision to sustain progress in the nation’s infrastructure renewal.

The CUPP further emphasised the civic right of Nigerians to observe government projects freely, saying such engagement strengthens public accountability and provides credible feedback to the authorities.
