Ondo NYSC Coordinator seeks facelift for Orientation camp

Barely 24 hours after assumption of office, the new NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mr. Sam Amaramiro Pepple has hit the ground running by calling on philanthropists and people of goodwill to rally support for the Scheme in his bid to make the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko more conducive, homely and convenient.

The State Coordinator made the call today when he paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to the orientation camp in Ikare-Akoko known to be among the oldest in the country.

Pepple, who paid glowing tribute to his predecessor, Mrs. Victoria Ani for her remarkable and ineffaceable achievements within her tenure called for more support to rehabilate the hostels.

He praised her for the infrastructural development the camp has witnessed in the last few years and disclosed that increase in corps population necessitated the call.

"Ondo, one of the oldest states carved out of Western Region of old deserves to have more structures and facilities that will contain the ever-growing corps population that we have been having in recent years".

He said that being one of the oldest camps notwithstanding, the edifices there should be rehabilated and preserved for future generation.

"For those who are conversant with the system in some foreign countries, they preserve and cherish their old monuments as national pride and I am calling on people of means to collaborate with us to develop this camp to the enviable status that we shall all be proud of and want to be identified with now and in the future".

He continued, 'From what I have seen today, the hostel accommodation is inadequate for prospective corps members as well as staff quarters. Kudos to my predecessors for bracing all odds to make this place habitable but we can improve on the amenities if we have collaboration'.

He encouraged the team comprising the Camp Director, the Head of PRS and the Camp Manager to gear up and consolidate on the cleanliness of the orientation camp as soon as possible.

While appreciating the remarkable buildings in the camp, the State Coordinator said that NYSC Ondo State has one of the best camp clinics and Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) in the country and that there was need to complement the beautiful edifices with enough accommodation.

The cerebral administrator hinted that Ondo State, being one of the safest and peaceful states in the country will continue to enjoy the influx of prospective corps members who desire to serve the nation in an atmosphere devoid of fear.

On how he planned to mobilise support and assistance to the camp, the 21st Chief Executive Officer in Ondo, the Sunshine State promised to intensify advocacy visits to traditional institutions, entrepreneurs, industrialists, community leaders and humanitarians.

The assessment visit was to consolidate on the preparation for the 2024 Batch 'A' (Stream II) orientation course slated for the coming weeks.

The State Coordinator was accompanied on the visit by the Assistant Director/Head, Human Resource Management, who is also the Camp Director designate, Mr. Jonathan Kolawole; Assistant Director/Head, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Thaddeus Idalu, the Head of Accommodation for the course, Mr. Albert Sanya. The team was received by the Camp Manager, Mr. Babatunde Oyelami, who doubles as NYSC Inspector for the host Local Government and his assistant, Mr. Adegbenga Adesola.

In a related development, the State Coordinator swiftly paid a call on the Divisional Police Officer of Ikare-Akoko, Superintendent of Police Mustapha Bolaji Hakeem, to familiarise and call for more synergy as regards the safety of prospective corps members who will be coming into Ikare-Akoko and the security of the lives and properties of corps members serving within Akoko North East Local Government.
